INTRODUCTION

Proper theology informs our posture (or attitude) and our posture influences how we approach and execute any activity for the Lord.

QUESTION

How is it that receiving the “Good News” with joy could be the description of someone who disowns or falls away when pressure and prosections come because of the word?

I propose to you that the Gospel is received with joy when there is no funeral to self.

MULTI-GENERATIONAL DISCIPLESHIP

Discipleship means growth. (Ephesians 4:11-13)

Discipleship is also familiar growth in fellowship with Believers. (Ephesians 4:1-6, John 17:21, I Corinthians 1:10) Our goal is to grow together as we grow together.

Discipleship is sharing life. (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

3 DESCRIPTORS OF CHRIST-CENTERED RELATIONSHIPS THAT FACILITATE MULTI-GENERATIONAL DISCIPLESHIP

1. Make intentional connections — initiate connections and breathe life into existing connections. (Matthew 28:18-20)

2. Make meaningful connections — intentionally discover who the other person is. Be organic and create healthy connectons for Christ. (Matthew 4:19)

3. Make purposeful connections — making the sight of  Christ desirable. (Galations 4:18)

In sports there’s an acronym used to describe the greatest of all time. It’s the phrase “G.O.A.T.” It stands for the GREATEST OF ALL TIME. It is common for fans to argue over who is the greatest of all time in the various sports. But whose the greatest person ever born…the G.O.A.T. when it comes to everyone who has ever lived? Well, in this area there is no debate. Jesus made it clear that John the Baptist was “THE GREATEST,” the true G.O.A.T.

What made John stand out that Jesus singled him out as the greatest? There were five great qualitites that made John so great. In THE GREATEST teaching series you will learn how to live a great life.

1. John was a strong and bold preacher (11:7b)

– Matthew 3:1-2, Matthew 3:7-10, Matthew 14:3-4

– Repentance means to turn from sin. It is not just saying “I’m sorry” but by showing you are sorry. You change and live differently.

– Good trees bear good works.

2. John was a common and a rugged man (11:8)

– Matthew 3:4, II KIngs 11:8, Matthew 11:18

3. John was a prophet of the most high (11:9)

– Luke 1:76-77, Malachi 4:5-6, Luke 1:17

4. John was the forerunner of Jesus (11:10)

– Malachi 3:1, Isaiah 40:3, Mark 1:2-3,7

5. John was the baptizer (11:11)

– Luke 1:13, Matthew 3:1, Mark 1:4-5, John 3:23, Matthew 3:13-15

6. John was the greatest (11:11)

– Luke 1:15a
